摘要

The education sector has gone through several cycles of transformation. Against this backdrop, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and educational data mining (EDM) constitutes the newest force, and it has the capacity to leverage and optimize internationalization and globalization in education. This chapter places experiences in Morocco within the global context by demonstrating how insights from Moroccan higher education institutions (HEIs) can help inform international practices. Morocco has done a great deal to digitize its education sector, particularly in the context of dealing with the problems arising from the COVID-19 crisis, where e-learning platforms and other digital instruments contributed to the continuity of education. One very good case of Morocco integrating AI and EDM into education is the adoption of the MASSAR system as a school management platform at the national level. This has done a great deal in terms of data collection and analysis for more tailored and efficient learning experiences. Further, some research in Morocco—for example, on the use of machine learning algorithms in predicting student performance and EDM use at Sharia University, Fez, to reduce dropout rates—shows the practical advantages, as well as the difficulties, of these technologies within an educational setting. AI, with its potential for handling complex and large data, and EDM, which allows the uncovering of insights from educational datasets, promise a rebirth of learning paradigms. This chapter analyzes the junction of AI and EDM to trace how their intersection influences and brings about change in the educational sector, improving the educational experience and reshaping the learning journey in more effective and personalized ways, aside from benefiting international student mobility and recruitment. Traditional education has almost always been based on the ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach, overlooking the nuances of individualized learning. AI and EDM have the potential to be game changers with regard to how we view education. That is why, against the background of the case of Morocco, with its innovative approaches within the digitalization during the pandemic and predictive models in educational settings, there are lessons to be learned in global education systems. These impress even more how high-capacity technological infrastructure, comprehensive training programs, and well-oriented support measures are important for allowing AI and EDM to transform education.
