In the dynamic context of human–robot collaboration (HRC) for smart manufacturing, AI’s evolving capabilities present a diversified spectrum of opportunities. This paper emphasizes the crucial role of Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) as a key enabler in collaborative robotics, addressing challenges posed by industry-specific jargon and communication styles through a prompting approach. Furthermore, it promotes the transformative potential of speech recognition on resource-limited devices as a fast-track towards unlocking the full collaborative capabilities of robots across diverse industrial applications.
