Digital Biomarkers in Neurodevelopmental Health: Current Status, Promises, and Perils

A digital biomarker is a quantifiable characteristic obtained from a digital device which serves as an indicator of a biological process. This includes both normal and pathological processes as well as responses to an exposure, for example to a treatment. There has been a surge of research interest on digital biomarkers in neurodevelopmentalBiomarkers in neurodevelopmental disorders health. Persisting challenges in the field such as long waiting times for diagnoses have led to the exploration of novel technologies to address these problems. In this chapter, we provide an overview of recent advances in the development ofDigital biomarkers for neurodevelopmental conditions digital biomarkers for neurodevelopmental health. We further discuss the potential improvements these new technologies can bring about as well as the associated risks and ethical challenges.
