Access to publicMining environmental management information in ChileChile suffers from weaknesses such as institutional dispersion of data and asymmetries in access to information by different actors (Civil society, public sector, and private sector). These issues have been particularly acute for the miningMining industry, a sector with the most investment contribution to the country but also associated with significant socio-environmental conflictsConflicts. Recognizing this challenge, the research team proposed and was awarded the FONDEF Environmental Observatory of MiningMining Projects project. This initiative aimed to develop a pilot environmental management information system focused on miningMining projects in two regions: Valparaíso and Metropolitana. The system was designed to capture, integrate, and disseminate information, reducing access and knowledge gaps and generating understandable indicatorsIndicators for different types of users. Both the definition of indicatorsIndicators and the construction of the visualization platform were developed using theCo-creation co-creation methodologyMethodology, testing, and validating with potential users. This methodologyMethodology comprised a robust participatory component to ensure perspective integration from different types of users from the regions analyzed. The co-creationCo-creation approach facilitated greater accessibilityAccessibility to complex information by exploring ways to present it at different levels of complexity. Furthermore, it enabled screening of new ways to communicate the information, approaching the citizenry looking for a graphic language that is easier to understand and allows the reading and understanding of the data. This article addresses the analytical framework to explain the role of access to environmental information. Then, it presents the methodological framework of the co-creationCo-creation process and the results of the process. Finally, the conclusions are included.
