Provisioning services include things like food, wood, fibre, raw materials, and infrastructure support; regulating services include things like flood mitigation, nutrient and contaminant filtering, carbon storage and greenhouse gas regulation, detoxification and waste recycling, and pest and disease population control; and cultural services include things like recreation, aesthetics, heritage values, and cultural identity. Because of the acidity of the soil, many crops face growth and yield constraints worldwide. The basic problems with the chemical properties of highly acidic soils include not just acidity per se, but also the presence of toxic materials and components such soluble forms of Al, Fe, and Mn, nitrites, and various hazardous organic acids.
