Como Las Mareas Del Océano: A Quantitative Ethnography of Caribbean Latino and Afro-Latino Identity and Education in El Norte De Philadelphia

AfroLatin American populations living in the United States are difficult to identify and count. This demographic conundrum creates challenges for public and education policy. How can policymakers assess the social, economic, and educational needs of a population that is as racially, ethnically, and geographically diverse as the tides of an ocean? Our research study of a North Philadelphia publicly subsidized housing community consisting of predominantly Caribbean Latinos and AfroLatinos, finds that using a cultural ecological framework through a quantitative ethnography, provides conceptual insights that support safe, sustainable, culturally-based and family-oriented educational housing programs and interventions.
