Is Access to Clean, Reliable Water a Guarantee?: How Climate Change Affects Water Accessibility in Local Contexts

In January 2023, students at schools in Jackson, Mississippi, moved to online learning when pipes in Jackson’s aging water system burst during a deep freeze, leaving too little water pressure to flush toilets or safely use the water. This crisis came on the heels of a multi-week boil water notice and, for some, a loss of water altogether. Jackson high school student Georgianna McKenny documented the experiences of Jackson’s youth through this crisis in her award-winning podcast, How the Jackson Water Crisis Affects Education.
