Enhancing English as a Foreign Language Learners’ Writing Performance and Experience With an Artificial Intelligence Powered Tool
摘要
This study examined a genre-based writing instruction (GBWI) approach aligned with Learning Experience Design (LXD) and integrated with the AI writing tool QuillBot. The effectiveness of pairing this LXD-GBWI method with QuillBot in enhancing English writing proficiency was investigated among 12th grade science students in Taiwan. Additionally, student perceptions of using AI writing assistants were explored. Findings demonstrated significant pretest to posttest gains across writing domains, suggesting promise for the integrated framework in developing English as a Foreign Language (EFL) writing. Results also showed positive attitudes toward both the systematic GBWI techniques scaffolded by LXD and QuillBot functionalities adapted to learner needs. This innovative synthesis of adaptive AI, structured instruction, and human-centric design holds potential for advancing key aspects of writing performance and engagement among EFL students.
