Turner Syndrome

Turner syndrome (TS) is a rare genetic disorder that results from either the partial or complete loss (monosomy) of one of the X chromosomes, which can affect multiple organ systems to varying degrees. Women with TS can manifest a distinct neurocognitive profile with relative verbal strengths accompanied by relative weaknesses in mathematics, executive functioning, and social cognition. In addition, TS is frequently comorbid with a number of psychiatric disorders such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The management of individuals with TS can be complex and often requires a multidisciplinary team. In particular, the neuropsychiatric care of women with TS requires a broad understanding of the genetic syndrome and its many comorbidities, all of which can impact psychosocial functioning.
