Several genera of insects, called pyrophilous, are equipped with extremely sensitive infrared receptors, allowing them to detect the presence of fires and freshly burned wood at very great distances. These are mainly buprestids (Coleoptera) of the genus Melanophila (M. acuminata) or Merimna (M. atrata), and bugs of the genus Aradus. Over shorter distances, blood-sucking insects such as mosquitoes, ticks, or bed bugs are also able to detect very small temperature variations. The infrared detectors of the buprestids have been at the origin of bioinspired realizations.

摘要

Several genera of insects, called pyrophilous, are equipped with extremely sensitive infrared receptors, allowing them to detect the presence of fires and freshly burned wood at very great distances. These are mainly buprestids (Coleoptera) of the genus Melanophila (M. acuminata) or Merimna (M. atrata), and bugs of the genus Aradus. Over shorter distances, blood-sucking insects such as mosquitoes, ticks, or bed bugs are also able to detect very small temperature variations. The infrared detectors of the buprestids have been at the origin of bioinspired realizations.
