In this last chapter, I examine some of the moral implications of my research. I will focus on the consequences of these ideas about mother/caregiver and infant interaction and the importance of this interaction for infants’ development and the welfare of primate human and nonhuman. Moreover, I will explore how research on touch as a mode of interaction between caregivers and infants can inform policies that affect caregivers, infants, and children, such as parental leave or the treatment of immigrant caregivers and children. Departing from more traditional approaches, I use the ideas of care ethics to support the moral importance of respecting and protecting the ability of mothers/caregivers to spend time with their infants.
