ART Outcomes in Latinx Patients
摘要
Latinx patients are notably underrepresented in infertility treatment and use of infertility care. This is driven by socioeconomic factors, barriers to reproductive health literacy, cultural factors, and language barriers. This difficulty in access to assisted reproductive technologies (ART) leads to disparities in fertility outcomes. Latinx patients have higher rates of tubal disease and obesity compared to White patients. Latinx patients often face significant cultural and religious stigma when accessing fertility care, leading to treatment delay. Latinx patients have lower in vitro fertilization (IVF) success rates, are less likely to have live birth as a pregnancy outcome and are more likely to have preterm deliveries and low infant birth rates following IVF compared to White patients. Improving ART outcomes for Latinx patients involves improvingis access, affordability, and culturally sensitive care. Best practice guidelines to accomplish this include improving interpreter access in fertility clinics, increasing diversity in the infertility workforce for both providers and clinic staff, advocating for improved insurance coverage for ART, and improving infertility health literacy among patients and primary care providers. Overall, there is limited information on ART outcomes in the Latinx community; additional research is needed to understand and address the disparities faced by Latinx patients receiving fertility treatment.
