Three-Dimensional Planning in Orthofacial Surgery

The introduction of virtual planning in orthognathic surgery has allowed surgeons to continuously improve diagnostic methods and surgical techniques. This advance has led to a shift from orthognathic to orthofacial models. Three-dimensional (3D) tools, which are helpful in private practice, are used for the evaluation of soft tissues and the upper airway, i.e., aesthetics and function. Imaging superimposition has become a fundamental tool in clinical practice by allowing surgeons to study surgical outcomes. Additionally, cutting guides have made the goal of achieving facial symmetry more objective, and 3D photographs have conveyed more reality to orthofacial planning.
