This chapter examines the relationship between acoustics, psychoacoustics, and the fundamental properties of sound. Acoustics covers the generation, transmission, and effects of sound waves in various media, while psychoacoustics connects psychology and acoustics to understand human auditory perception. Key concepts such as the physical and perceptual definitions of sound, nature of waves, and specific characteristics of sound waves, including speed, amplitude, period, frequency, and wavelength, are thoroughly explored. This chapter emphasizes the importance of these principles in otology and audiology, providing a solid foundation for professionals in these fields.
