摘要

Hearing loss (HL) can cause educational, behavioral, and psychological problems. Otosclerosis is an important cause of HL. In this condition, newly formed bone involves the oval window area, interfering with the mechanical transmission of sound and resultant conductive hearing loss. In advanced stages of the disease, bone debris can spread into the bony labyrinth of the inner ear, affecting the cochlea and causing mixed and sensorineural hearing loss. Although there are several methods of treatment, depending on the hearing level, the type of HL, and the anatomy of the temporal bone. Surgery is the most reliable and effective method of hearing rehabilitation. In experienced hands, surgery is considered to have high success rates, reliability, and low risk of complications. The treatment option will inevitably change in the future with the discovery of the underlying etiologic mechanism and the impact of technological developments.
