Porto and Its Heritage at Risk

This article contextualises UNESCO’s classification of Porto as a World Heritage Site. It seeks to understand the impact of this classification on the city and the changes that have resulted from it. It aims to understand how the renovation of the historic centre has been carried out over the last few years, by different entities, and what their objectives have been. Finally, it looks at some examples of interventions that have destroyed Porto’s built heritage and their consequences for the city’s classification as a World Heritage Site.
