Accelerated metabolic rates and altered nutrient dynamics contribute to this phenomenon, reshaping marine ecosystems. Smaller plankton disrupt predator–prey dynamics and diminish the efficiency of the biological pump, crucial for carbon sequestration. These changes amplify climate feedback loops and threaten global fisheries. Understanding and mitigating the TSR’s impact on plankton size are vital for navigating the complexities of a warming ocean and preserving marine ecosystem health.
