Toxicology and Sides Effects of Mesotherapy

This chapter delves into the toxicology and side effects associated with mesotherapy, highlighting a range of adverse effects observed in clinical cases. Hair loss at injection sites is paradoxically noted in patients treated for hair regrowth and is often linked to various mesotherapy formulations. Arthrosis, particularly with acetyl-l-carnitine, has been reported, manifesting as systemic lupus erythematosus in a patient. Abdominal hematomas, though less common, present severe complications. Edema, including angioedema and frontal edema, is frequently observed, especially with formulations containing minoxidil, finasteride, and lidocaine. Psoriasis exacerbation is noted in patients with preexisting conditions and is triggered by the trauma and substances used. Delirium with psychotic features is a rare but severe reaction. Skin ulcers, including facial cutaneous ulcers and noninfectious granulomatous panniculitis, pose significant dermatological challenges, often leading to scarring and psychological distress. These findings underscore the need for caution, thorough patient history evaluation, and consideration of potential risks when administering mesotherapy.
