Stephen Gaukroger on Philosophical Failure

Steve Gaukroger was much interested in what he described as the failures of philosophy. By this he meant that, at several historical junctures, philosophy was superseded as a discipline and had to be re-invented. A different form of failure is considered here: that which arises when philosophers underestimate their opponents.
