The article discusses the role of an interpreter and translator in employee mediation, its location, duties and requirements, the main challenges facing the interpreter and the mediation process, employees’ expectations towards the interpreter and the difference between court proceedings and mediation. I will start by discussing the meaning of the word mediation and the benefits of mediation in the case of dysfunctional problems, instead of going to court, I will move on to the language difference between the parties and the need for something in the middle called an interpreter, I will also go on to list the main duties and requirements of an interpreter in employee mediation, I will describe the main challenges faced by the translator when listening to the various shades of meaning from the employee’s side and finding the appropriate translation and judgment for the other party, I will discuss the difficulties of these professionals and the training they need, covering grammar, pronunciation skills, vocabulary and cultural differences between both parties. Let me give you a specific example of employee mediation with the help provided by language services. I will conclude with the importance of the role of an interpreter and interpreter in any labor mediation process. More and more areas of our society are seeing the benefits.
