Applicability of Nanomaterials in Agriculture

Nanotechnology is an emerging technology with specialized nanomaterials and devices proficient for agriculture harvest. Nanomaterials can play important role in agriculture for improving the crop productivity in sustainable manner. The nanomaterials are produced by green synthesis and artificial synthesis. The benefits of green synthesis lower energy use, lower costs, and the utilization of renewable ingredients, whereas, use of artificially synthesized nanomaterials in agriculture has increased due to their ability to increase crop yield, improve soil health, and minimize dependency on traditional chemical inputs. Nanotechnology provide micronutrient bioactive substances enhanced nutrients absorption, disease control, pest and weed management, prevention of nutrient loss improve the agricultural yield. The core, types, composition, size, shape, and chemistry of nanomaterials play an important role in various agriculture tasks such as nanofertilizers, nanopesticides, nanoherbicides, nanoinsecticides, and nanosensors. In this chapter, we discuss the selection and application of suitable nanomaterials to achieve sustainable agriculture and remedies of nanotoxicity. In agriculture, nanotechnology can bring revolutionary changes in harvest, weed and pest management, soil-plant interaction, and food and science technology.
