Introduction

This chapter is concerned with the introduction to text mining. Text mining is defined as the process of extracting implicit knowledge from textual data. Tasks of text mining are text classification, text clustering, text summarization, and text segmentation which are covered in this book. In comparing text mining with data mining, text mining is a special type of data mining whose source is text data. Therefore, this chapter is intended to provide the basic concepts of text mining and the background for understanding it in the subsequent chapters.
