Unveiling Industrial Influence: Statistical Insights into Brahmani River Water Quality

Water Pollution is one of the leading global environmental concerns that has been an astute topic of fundamental research and progress amongst the researchers’ fraternity. India being a land full of rivers and water streams, faces enormous issues related to water pollution and water quality degradation. Being a developed country, India is home to many domestic and international industries with varied levels of modernized equipment and machinery producing a wide range of harmful and contaminating pollutants. In this study, we have focused on the effects of the industrial belt on the water quality of the Brahmani River in the state of Odisha, India. Brahmani River stream being surrounded by a large number of industries is susceptible to high levels of water pollution making the river water unfit for further utilization. Statistical analysis and modeling have been performed on the river water data available from the different stations in the river belt. The present study involves the time series analysis of chemical properties of water like pH, Temperature, DO, BOD, COD, TC, and FC using SPSS (Statistical Packages for Social Sciences) software. The available data has been used to study the trends and impacts and also forecasting techniques and models have been used to forecast or predict future trends and values. Monthly Data from all the stations present in the Brahmani river stream for the year 2019–2021 available with the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) has been collected and used in this study for analysis and modeling.
