Continuous Sign Language Recognition Using Holistic Key Points

The International Federation of the Deaf estimates that there are more than 70 million deaf persons worldwide. Almost 80% of them reside in underdeveloped countries [1] While there are many platforms for translating our spoken languages, there aren’t many for understanding sign language. This is an important issue because sign language is used to communicate with deaf individuals. To address this issue, we decided to develop a Continuous Sign Language Recognition Using Holistic Key Points. The system will typically consist of a camera or other input device for capturing sign language gestures, a feature extraction and classification module for identifying and interpreting the gestures, and a real-time display or output mechanism for presenting the interpreted sign language to the user. This system can be used to facilitate communication between individuals who use sign language and those who do not. A real-time sign language translation system can make it easier for deaf individuals to access information and communicate with others. A real-time sign language estimation system can be used in educational settings to help students who use sign language to participate more actively in class and understand lectures and other materials. By making it easier for individuals who use sign language to communicate with others, this system can help to promote social inclusion and reduce barriers to communication.
