Design and Performance Analysis of Proposed Dual Channel Redundant LoRaWAN for Industrial Control and Safety Shutdown Systems

As industry 4.0 is currently being implemented in industries, there is a huge demand for highly reliable and Hard real time wireless data communication between sensor/actuator end nodes and Control System and to integrate the same as part of IIoT. High availability and faster data transfer are the most critical requirement for exchanging feedback/control signal between end nodes and control System of a closed loop control and safety shutdown system to avoid any downtime in a plant due to false positive or false negative values. In this work, Redundant LoRaWAN is designed which transmit/receive the same data using dual channels and the data is picked from a healthy channel using an analog Multiplexer in case of failure of any one channel. An Experimental test bed is setup to establish communication and analyse the performance. The test results confirm that this Redundant LoRaWAN reduces the probability of failure of communication to less than 1% in an Industrial control and shutdown application.
