Molecular Markers and Their Applications in Marker-Assisted Selection in Industrial Crops
摘要
Molecular markers have transformed the field of crop breeding, offering precision and efficiency in the selection of desirable traits. This chapter explores the various uses of molecular markers in marker-assisted selection for industrial crops. These markers, which include restriction fragment length polymorphisms, random amplified polymorphic DNAs, inter simple sequence repeats, simple sequence repeats, amplified fragment length polymorphisms, sequence characterized amplified region, sequence-related amplified polymorphism, target region amplification polymorphism, sequence-tagged sites, cleaved amplified polymorphic sequences, expressed sequence tags, single nucleotide polymorphisms, diversity arrays technology, start codon targeted polymorphism and genotyping-by-sequencing, serve as vital tools in identifying and tracking genes associated with key agricultural traits, including disease resistance, yield improvement and stress tolerance. By integrating molecular markers into traditional breeding programs, the accuracy and speed of developing superior crop varieties have significantly improved. This chapter highlights the latest progress in marker technologies and their practical applications in marker assisted selection, illustrating how they contribute to the productive and sustainable cultivation of industrial crops. The chapter also discusses the difficulties and possibilities for the future in the field, emphasizing the importance of continued innovation and research in molecular marker technologies to fulfill the expanding demands of the world’s agriculture.
