Wing Easton was sent to northern Sumatra in 1892 to investigate reports of native bismuth on Samosir Island, Toba has drawn the attention of naturalists from around the world. Although he confirmed the existence of bismuth on Samosir, his biggest contribution was to report on the volcanic origins of the ‘kesselbruch.’
