Green tourism has been highlighted as an important trend for developing tourism industry in the future. One of the potential ways of improving the green tourism industry is bicycle travel, which can be considered as a sustainable strategy for this industry. However, the concept of bicycle travel and the contribution of it for supporting green tourism industry has not received enough attention from academics. This paper aims to conduct a summary of theories related to the bicycle travel concept and suggest a theoretical framework which presents possible effects of this phenomenon on the green tourism industry. This study has used multiple methods for modelling the bicycle travel concept including the systematic review method and the graphing technique. This study brings its contributions through several points. First, we present the theories of green tourism development. Second, the study, provides a literature review which focuses only on bicycle travel and highlights the role of bicycle travel on green tourism industry. Third, the study introduces a theoretical framework for conducting the bicycle travel as a variable of green tourism industry. Fourth, we deliver some theoretical and practical implications for enhancing bicycle travel in countries. These results will promote green tourism development in the future. In addition, this study will provide some practical implications for applying this concept to sustainable development in the tourism industry.
