This book has explored the experiences of 13 women who were among the first Israelis to pursue careers in fields related to electronic computing. Despite encountering similar challenges, their paths diverged. Some, like Dalia Prashker, achieved significant success in the high-tech industry. Others, like Nira Dyn, became prominent academic researchers. A common theme is the difficulty of balancing family and career. High fertility rates in Israel and the expectation of motherhood placed significant burdens on these women. Many had to find creative solutions, such as working part-time or relying on husbands and childcare. Despite their achievements, the interviewees often downplayed their contributions. Notably, female representation in Israeli computer science faculty has remained low, even in this relatively young field. This raises questions about specific barriers within the discipline that continue to hinder women’s advancement.
