摘要

Acute venous thrombosis is a common reason for inpatient consultation. High degree of suspicious to detect venous thromboembolism (TVE) is needed while evaluating critically ill patients in medical and surgical units. A detailed history, including family evidence of thromboembolic disease, autoimmune diseases (i.e., systemic lupus erythematous, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.), and the possibility of cancer diagnosis, can guide laboratory investigation, type of anticoagulant, and length of therapy. In this chapter, we describe two clinical cases to address investigation and therapy of provoked and unprovoked TVE.
