Nanoinsecticide Formulation Types

摘要

Chemical pesticides are often used to manage insect pests; however, this can lead to environmental risks such as chemical residues’ accumulating within the food chain, the development of insecticidal resistance, pest revival, and secondary pest emergence. Thus, alternative pest management techniques that have the least negative impacts must be identified. The best substitutes for chemical pesticides are nanoinsecticide formulations (NIFs), which come in the form of metal compound-based nanopesticides, nanofertilizers, nanoemulsions (NEs), nanosuspensions, and nanogels. Their sizes range from 10 to 100 nm, and they are designed for a range of agricultural applications and modes of action. Pests damage more than 25% of the world’s crops every year. Different pesticides, such as chemical, synthetic, biological, and botanical ones, have been used over the past few decades to combat pests effectively enough to protect plants and agriculture. Over 200,000 individuals worldwide die each year as a result of direct poisoning from chemical and synthetic pesticides. The poor delivery, low stability, limited biodegradability, low specificity, and high cost of these pesticides have prevented them from producing only the intended effects. The rapidly developing field of nanotechnology could have success in the agriculture sector by boosting agricultural productivity and insect mortality rates. As a result, nanoinsecticide formulations (NIFs) can be safe and effective methods of delivering insecticidal formulations. This chapter overviews using NIFs as innovative controlling methods against agricultural pests. This chapter also aims to review the synthesis, description, and uses of NIFs in a variety of contexts, focusing on how well they work against pests.
