Methods Used to Fabricate Tissue Engineering Scaffolds

This chapter represents different methods used for scaffold fabrication. Scaffolds can be fabricated by several methods. The variety of scaffold fabrication methods came from the development of the tissue engineering field which forced the scientists to search for advanced methods to prepare ideal scaffold. Meanwhile, the required properties of the scaffold applied for specific applications determine the fabrication method. In this chapter, we illustrate the most important methods for scaffold fabrication accompanied by simple practical examples from our practical experience or previous literature. The fabrication methods of the scaffold can be generally subdivided into two techniques; conventional techniques and rapid prototyping (RP) techniques (Fig. 3.1).
