Introduction

This chapter presents the widely accepted definition of biomaterials. Moreover, the history and chronological evolution of biomaterials in ascending history are as follows, before civilization (BC), Ancient Egyptians, Romans & Greeks, Muslims, middle centuries, and today, and showing the characteristic biomaterials and biomedical devices for each period. The impact of biomaterial tissue engineering is demonstrated concerning the progressive increase number of publications. Finally, accepted tissue engineering definitions and scaffold ideal properties are shown.
