Emerging Pollutants in Marine Environment: Occurrence and Environmental Concerns
摘要
Emerging pollutants is a chemical or substance that is not regulated under existing environmental regulation and law. These pollutants have been identified to give adverse effects on the environment and human itself. The sources of these pollutants may come from various sources, including agricultural practices, industrial processes, urban runoff, and consumer care products. In this review, several major emerging pollutants, namely endocrine disrupting chemicals, microplastics and heavy metals will be focussed to the occurrence and environmental concerns especially in our region waters. Therefore, comprehensive information on the pollutants threat to ecological and human health, as well as their fate and behaviour in the environment is crucial to solve the threats and fill in the gaps faced worldwide.
