Coenzyme Q10—Diagnostic Marker of Energy Deficit in Mitochondria
摘要
Deficit of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) in the body is related to several disease states, early detection of its concentrations is beneficial for the patient. Monitoring CoQ10 levels during supplementation allows to achieve its optimal concentrations. Currently, High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) is the most widely used for CoQ10 determination in biological materials, suitable for use in clinical diagnostics. In addition to the determination of circulating CoQ10 in plasma, the detection of intracellular CoQ10 concentrations in available human tissues (platelets, muscle biopsies, seminal fluid) significantly complements diagnostic and therapeutic possibilities.
