Aging and Bioenergetics of Mitochondria
摘要
Mitochondria are subcellular organelles involved in many metabolic events, including oxidative phosphorylation, and signalling in tissue-specific processes. They play a key role in cell proliferation, differentiation, and death. They have been associated with the progression of aging being considered one of the main drivers of the deterioration associated with the progression of aging. Maintenance of the mitochondrial turnover and dynamics avoiding the accumulation of damaged structures is key for the bioenergetic balance of the whole organism during aging.
