摘要

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is the most commonly diagnosed autoimmune systemic inflammatory arthritis. The progression of the disease is associated with the development of chronic pain and a chronic articular and extra-articular inflammatory process, which gradually leads to disability, early retirement and higher mortality. Oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction are among molecular mechanisms of RA origin and development. The exact etiopathogenetic mechanisms of RA development are still not fully understood. Currently, the most effective is biological treatment, which is often associated with possible serious side effects. New therapeutic approaches for RA include supportive anti-inflammatory and antioxidant therapy, including coenzyme Q10, possibly in combination with traditional antirheumatic drugs. Contribution to the elucidation of the pathobiochemical mechanisms of RA may provide a prospective basis for the development of new therapeutic approaches in mitochondrial rheumatology.
