Perspective of Mitochondrial Nephrology

摘要

Kidneys belong to the most metabolically active organs with a high demand for energy, which is formed in mitochondria. Mitochondrial dysfunction, reduced endogenous coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) production and oxidative stress are among the main factors in both acute and chronic kidney disease. High-resolution respirometry (HRR) method for measuring mitochondrial respiration and energy production and determining endogenous CoQ10 concentrations may contribute to the early diagnosis and targeted therapy of dysfunctional mitochondria in patients with kidney disease. Prospective targeted diagnostic methods of damaged kidney mitochondria include determination of CoQ10 levels, determination of mitochondrial bioenergetics in platelets. Prospective therapy for damaged kidney mitochondria includes plasma therapy, the influence of molecular hydrogen and mitochondrial transplantation.
