As discussed in previous chapters, angles and distances are the two fundamental quantities for Geomatics. Positioning points on the ground surface, determining elevation differences, and setting out designed feature elements are examples of surveying operations based on angle and distance measurements. Therefore, this chapter discusses the concepts related to angular measurements, while the concepts related to distance measurements are discussed in Chaps. 7 and 8 .
