BIM, or Building Information Modelling, is a civil engineering project management process that helps to digitally create an accurate virtual model of a building known as a “building information model”. It is a set of technologies, practices and collaborative processes for developing and managing projects based on geometric and semantic data, parametric graphical representation, oriented towards three-dimensional objects, and progressively developed and integrated throughout the lifecycle of a building or infrastructure project. This model can be used for the planning, design, construction, and operation processes. It provides greater visibility, better decision-making and more sustainable options to identify potential design, construction or operational issues in Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) projects.
