The decline of green spaces and natural environments within urban centers in Malaysia has adverse implications for public health and well-being. In response to this challenge, the application of biophilic design offers a strategic means to reintegrate natural elements into interior spaces. This methodology facilitates the creation of spaces that emulate aspects of the natural environment, fostering a deeper connection with nature. The principal objectives of this study are to delineate culturally relevant design strategies and to scrutinize traditional Malaysian design motifs for their integration with contemporary biophilic design principles. This research aims to evaluate the effects of biophilic design on the urban landscape of Malaysia, employing user satisfaction and productivity metrics derived from surveys and questionnaires conducted within biophilically designed interiors. Additionally, this investigation will explore the potential challenges and opportunities associated with adopting biophilic design in Malaysian urban contexts, with a particular focus on sustainability issues. The findings from this study are anticipated to contribute toward the development of design solutions that are both sustainable and culturally resonant, thereby aiding architects, designers, and policymakers in crafting indoor environments that are healthful, sustainable, and inclusive across Malaysia.
