Design for Sustainability Drives Inclusive Innovation of Urban Agricultural Communities: Taking Projects in China and Italy as Examples

Inclusive innovation has become an important issue for sustainable development strategies in recent years. Inclusive innovation here is defined in a broad framework, which is a collaborative, co-participating, co-creating multi-stakeholder approach to innovation. Design for sustainability will act as a coordinator to facilitate inclusive innovation processes in agricultural communities, facilitate social learning knowledge co-creation, enhance collective awareness, and enable new stakeholder groups to be empowered. It also promotes the sustainable development of urban agricultural communities, enhances the resilience and competitiveness of local agricultural systems, enables the harmonious interaction between man and nature, and reduces the consumption of natural resources while promoting economic growth and improving the well-being of local people. At the same time optimize information and training, promote research and innovation, and awaken interest in agricultural heritage. Care for marginalized groups such as women, people with disabilities and minorities. Combined with the collaborative innovation design practice projects of agricultural communities in China and Italy, the different collaborative innovation models and designs adopted in different backgrounds are analyzed. China’s Qujialing project carried out design-driven innovation through design competitions, and Italy’s Fiesole region carried out collaborative innovation based on the course of design for sustainability. This paper makes a detailed analysis of the background of the two projects (agricultural resources, historical and cultural resources, ecotourism resources), local development needs, project team and knowledge building, design innovation methods, results and technical means. Through project practice and analysis, try to establish a model of inclusive innovation cooperation in sustainable design in urban agricultural communities. Form an interdisciplinary and intercultural knowledge transformation approach. Explore new models for establishing knowledge exchange and capacity sharing. Provide a reference model for the cooperation of stakeholders and partners, promote knowledge co-creation and value sharing. Provide sustainable design solutions for urban agricultural community residents, farmers, businesses, and associations.
