Introduction to Bioinformatics and Computational Biology
摘要
Sequencing of biomolecules began in 1951 when Sanger and Tuppy deduced the thirty residue proteins from the insulin B-chain. It was only after 25 years that real DNA sequencing methodologies were developed by Maxim & Gilbert and by Sanger et al. Today, we are sequencing tens of millions of bases of DNA sequences a year and undertaking the sequencing of genomes from whole organisms. During these times, the sequence databases have continued their exponential growth rate. Computational research in bioinformatics aims to enhance the retrieval, analysis, and interpretation of information embedded within biological databases containing DNA and protein sequences.
