cGAS-STING: A Regulator of Intestinal Barrier Dysfunction and Metabolic Syndrome

Pathological conditions such as hyperlipidemia, abdominal obesityAbdominal obesity, hypertension, and insulin resistance are collectively called metabolic syndrome or syndrome XSyndrome X. The prevalenceLipid metabolic dysregulationprevalence rate of metabolic syndrome is relatively high in both adolescents and adults at the global level. This is an alarming sign of increased morbidity and mortality, as well as a global burden on the healthcare system, including the pharmaceutical industry. So far, there is no approval for a drug to be used for the treatment of metabolic syndromeTreatment of metabolic syndrome due to a poor understanding of its pathological mechanism. The study suggests that the modern sedentary lifestyle and the consumption of mass-marketed, low-fiber, high-energy meals mainly cause it. However, there is a lack of understanding of the etiology of the molecular mechanism of metabolic syndrome. The cyclic GMP-AMP synthase-stimulator of interferon genes (cGAS-STING) pathway is involved in various intestinal epithelial barrier dysfunctions and chronic inflammatory signaling, which regulates various metabolic dysfunctions. Unfortunately, there is a lack of information regarding the correlation of cGAS-STING signaling in intestinal barrier disruption and the regulation of metabolic syndrome. Therefore, this chapter aims to involve and highlight the regulatory mechanism of cGAS-STING signaling in intestinal barrier dysfunction and metabolic syndrome.
