The global prevalence of MetS varies significantly, influenced by factors such as gender, race/ethnicity, age, and socioeconomic status and has been on a steady rise. The development of MetS involves a combination of genetic and environmental factors that contribute to insulin resistance, abnormal hormonal signaling, and chronic low-grade inflammation. The definition and criteria for diagnosing MetS continue to evolve and are a topic of debate. Regardless of the specific diagnostic criteria, the presence of these metabolic abnormalities significantly amplifies the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer.
