Updates on Bioactive Compound of Microgreens: A Novel Superfood for Monitoring Lifestyle Disease
摘要
Plant-derived natural bioactive compounds played a crucial role in monitoring lifestyle diseases throughout the ancient history of Earth. To combat the rigorously originated lifestyle disease, researchers are aggressively trying to evolve novel and functional plant-based products in the agriculture innovation industry. For this phenomenon, in the recent era, microgreens have gained popularity to control lifestyle diseases due to their potently appealing sensory qualities, richness in vitamins, flavours, other secondary or bioactive compounds, high-density minerals, as well as antioxidant enzymes such as anthocyanins, ascorbate peroxidase, catalase, carotenoids, folate, glucosinolates, isothiocyanates, phylloquinones, peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, tocopherol, tocotrienols, etc. These compounds work against chronic diseases such as hypertension, cancer, cardiovascular, oxidative stress, inflammation, diabetes, kidney diseases, metabolic disorders, goitre, other chronic ailments, and malnutrition. These qualities of microgreens may evoke the attention of investigators in the arena of human health because growing public concern regarding health has prompted humans’ beings to turn to microgreens. This chapter vividly explains the current investigation on various facets of microgreens, including nutritious and socioeconomic benefits, innovative treatments, and potential space applications. The present study provides the baseline foundation for future researchers to establish the health benefits due to the consumption of microgreens in the current generation.
