Murraya koenigii (L.) Spreng.
摘要
Murraya koenigii (L) Spreng (Rutaceae family) is known as “curry leaves”. It is widely spread in the tropical and subtropical regions of the globe. Medicinal properties of M. koenigii are mainly attributed to its content of carbazole alkaloid derivates and metabolites, like terpenoids, flavonoids, phenolics, carbohydrates, carotenoids, vitamins, and nicotinic acid. The main pharmacological properties of carbazole alkaloids include antioxidant, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, and neuroprotective activities. Leaves are used as analgesics, digestives, anthelminthics, and appetizers, in Indian cookery. The crude drug is also used for treating piles, inflammations, itching, cuts, dysentery, bruises, and oedema whereas roots have purgative effect. The barks help treat snakebites. The essential oil contains anti-oxidative, hepatoprotective components.
