Post-industrial Educational Systems: Waiting for Godot

“Waiting for Godot”, “written by Samuel Beckett, is a play that often deals with themes such as existentialism, the passing of time and the human condition. In the play, the characters Vladimir and Estragon wait endlessly for someone called Godot, who never arrives. Godot seems to be a figure of authority or leadership whose absence leaves the characters lost and disorientated.” Waiting for Godot encourages viewers to question assumptions, challenge conventions and think critically about the world around them. In a post-industrial urban educational context, we need to think differently and challenge conventions in education. We need to understand the wide diversity of the populations we serve and the complexity of the contexts in which we work. We cannot just wait and see, we need to take our future into our own hands and stop relying on Godot.
