Tribology and engineering mechanics are extremely rewarding fields to research and teach. And both, research activities and teaching, benefit greatly from the early and consistent use of programming languages. In respect of teaching, early means in the first semester of the undergraduate program as part of the first course on engineering mechanics. This chapter shows how the Julia programming language can be used fruitfully in both tribology and engineering mechanics courses. The aim is always to promote students’ understanding of the technical content and at the same time to strengthen their programming skills. With the help of a programming language, theoretical content is often better grasped by the students and more practical, challenging assignments can be solved. Both lead to greater motivation on the part of the learners and increase the chances that the content will be understood and can be recalled in the long term.

摘要
