The Perception of BDSM in Czech Society: Research Data

The previous chapter already presented some Czech and foreign data from the field of BDSM and domination for pay, which we include in the so-called sex work in general. Now we come to representative data for the Czech adult population. This means that the results described here bear a reasonable correspondence to the overall opinion climate in Czech society. The perception of BDSM reflects the concept of the so-called dual legitimacy of violence and a relatively high tolerance towards discreet manifestations of BDSM. The interest in the topic is readily evident from the large number of respondents willing to answer questions relating to consensual violent sexual practices, despite the option to bypass these questions altogether and focus on queries on other topics, which were also part of the questionnaire used. Regarding this problematic, this chapter also includes a detailed consideration of the possibilities and limits of questioning in the areas of sexuality and intimacy, supported by a number of theories dealing specifically with the so-called sensitive questions.
